John Deasy TD was re-elected to Dáil Eireann in May 2007. He was appointed Deputy Spokesperson on Foreign Affairs, with Special Responsibility for Overseas Development Aid, October, 07.

In October 2004 John was appointed Chairman of the Dáil's European Affairs Committee and was also appointed as a member of the Public Accounts Committee.

Deputy Deasy served as spokesperson on Justice, Equality and Law Reform, from June, 2002 to March, 2004.

John was a member of Waterford County Council and Dungarvan town Council where he topped the poll in the Dungarvan district in the 1999 local elections.

He was a legislative assistant in United States Senate handling trade and foreign affairs for Senator John Heinz (1990-91).

He was manager of Public Affairs for multinational waste management company (1991-92).

He was also legislative assistant in U.S. House of Representatives handling trade, foreign affairs, energy, environment, banking, economic development, immigration and human rights for U.S. Representative Ronald K. Machtley, 1993-95.
